The Southerns Beekeeping Association (SBA)

Is a voluntary association dedicated to fostering a love for bees, beekeeping, and the vital role they play in our environment. Our mission is to educate, support, and inspire beekeepers of all levels while promoting the well-being of our beloved pollinators.

Honey Bee facts

Who We Are

SBA welcomes both hobbyist and professional beekeepers. Our members range from individuals managing one or two hives for pure enjoyment to those with up to 50 hives for a rewarding pastime. We also include professional beekeepers who run hundreds of hives for honey production, pollination services, and other contributions to the apiculture industry.

Based in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa, SBA’s reach extends throughout Gauteng, including areas like Midrand and Pretoria, as well as neighboring provinces. While rooted in Gauteng, we are not bound by geographical borders—our passion for bees and their remarkable ability to transform simple plant nectar into nature’s sweet honey connects us all.

  • Workshops and Field Days: Hands-on learning opportunities such as hive maintenance, honey harvesting, and more.
  • Educational Outreach: Talks and campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of bees and how to support them.
  • Markets and Events: Selling bee products and promoting the association to the broader community.
